Wild ARMS 4 Speedrun - Dievas Airport Segment

A second practice speed run of Wild ARMS 4. This time, no ACF data was uploaded to comply with SDA rules. Right from the beginning of this run, the Trump Card fight was a massive headache. I recall actually discussing it with Talaysen if it was faster just defending through his attacks than not. Thanks to the documentation on him from metroidcomposite and NeoElfBoy, I knew around how fast Gawn was, which helped decide who will get the Tiny Flowers. I also knew that Intrude turns would be cancelled upon eating a Trump Card counter. Which was what made me decide putting the Tiny Flower on Raq, and opted to give it to my second fastest member. I also knew from Talaysen that Rapid attack still kicks in even though Trump Card cancels your turn. What no ONE documented though, was that Tiny Flower's detonation mode would not be cancelled. As Trump Card's counters do not flag the action as being "used", the Detonation mode remains for the entire fight. Unless you heal or something. Hence, I was adamant in forcing Jude and Arnaud to keep attacking to keep the boost on and burn through as many bullets as I could. An optimal battle results with Trump Card shooting the character with the Goat Doll equipped. I've gotten this to happen once and obviously does not happen here (poor Arnaud). The time in this case is around 36 seconds. If on the other hand, you leave him with 3 bullets, revive everyone, then attack once, the time becomes 51 seconds. The second time is fairly consistent overall and its proof that you need to attack to make the fight go as quick as you can. Figures that right before the save point is a completely luck dependent battle *shoots*. And the save point thing? I was wrong originally. You can time a long double jump to reach back and save after you're done with the staff. This makes it such that there's no backtracking involved everytime you want to redo the Illsveil portions. Hurray! The Jane Does fight was a headache to figure out too. I knew that I wanted them to be gathered together since this would cut down the number of Intrude and physical attacks I needed. I also knew that a Class Level 5 Raquel would be faster than all of them with the Tiny Flower, yet one without is too slow. After fooling around, I decided to try using her Area of effect Exorcism, this ended up leaving her with only 4 class levels. I also gave Yulie the Tiny Flower on that run. And thus, this new strategy was born. It doesn't use Exorcism at all but I knew then that a class level 4 Raquel would be fast enough to get a turn after they gathered. Yulie's initial turn is important for getting the 100 FP needed. After that? Beatdown of death. I'm sure you'll be as amused as I when I figured this out. The other portions of the run is tricky. Since there are so many ways for you to make a mistake. Whether its bombs being aimed improperly, random battles, Light staff switches missing (which happens here), grabbing the ladders or what not. There are two mistakes that stick out. a) The Light staff throw IS supposed to hit the other side in one shot. I missed, but got it on my second try b) I hit L1 too soon with the bomb and end up doing the examine function instead of entering accelerator mode. Oops. I'm also fairly certain I tapped R1 too many times. Some of those can probably be reduced to holds to shorten the time taken from one location to another. My menu speed was mediocre I think. Well the initial Jane Doe one is fine. But the Gawn set up was...passable I guess. Anyways, I plan to get better quality and actually taping the run soon enough. For now though, enjoy.
