Just twenty-four hours ago we were warned the worst floods in 50 years could be on the way to parts of England. Fortunately, for those living on the East coast, the worst never happened, but they are nevertheless mopping up after being hit by a tidal surge. The North Sea crashed into the shoreline at Great Yarmouth, just a few inches higher and the water would have breached sea defences. Instead they held firm and despite warnings of imminent danger to life and property, most residents were spared the worst. For some though, there was anger after their homes and gardens were left under water. Police evacuated properties throughout the night, but some residents said they were not given enough warning to protect their homes. For others, the prospect of wild weather brought with it a new challenge, as some surfers decided to make the most of a rare opportunity.
