Warsaw Ghetto uprising remembered

Israeli President Shimon Peres and Polish President Lech Kaczynski were joined by Polish and Israeli survivors to remember the month-long insurrection of Jewish fighters against the Nazi occupiers in the city's ghetto. Around 6000 of the civilian Jewish population of the ghetto died in the fighing, and about 50 000 were killed after it ended, before the ghetto was burned to the ground.
