U.S. factories in upturn

Manufacturing activity in the U.S. unexpectedly grew in June, according to the Institute for Supply Management.

The first rebound since January helped stocks pare early losses. Rising oil prices and the fear of rising inflation, however, continued to dampen investor confidence. Conway Gittens reports from New York.
