
(NECN) - Increased activity has been observed in Ecuador's El Reventador volcano, located 62 miles east of the capital Quito, in the province of Napo. The volcano has been spewing lava and smoke, but Ecuador's Geophysics Institute has assured there is no imminent danger to citizens. Technicians at the Institute are standing by to monitor activity and in case the situation becomes dangerous for the population, but said the volcano's latest activity is characterized by moderate explosions. No significant amounts of ash have deposited in any of the areas nearby the volcano. read more
