"Shooter" is a conspiracy thriller starring Mark Wahlberg as an exiled marksman who is lured back into action after learning of a plot to kill the president. Danny Glover, Michael Pena, and Kate Mara co-star for director Antoine Fuqua. The film focuses on a jumble of conspiracy theories, post-9/11 paranoia, nonstop action and improbable heroes and villains. "I think that the great thing about it is that everybody is going to take something different away. here are certain people that are aware of some of the stuff going on and then there are young kids in middle America that are gonna wanna go and see me kick ass and they are going to say 'wait a second - is some of the stuff he is saying possibly true?' and they are going to ask questions. I think that anybody that is a G-d loving decent human being is gonna you know wanna make change so you get out there are you vote," Wahlberg told Reuters. At the heart of "Shooter" is the old Hitchcock chestnut about a wrong man fingered for a crime. In this instance, the guy is framed and can only clear himself by hunting down those actually culpable. Bob Lee Swagger (Wahlberg) is a highly trained Marine, survivalist and sniper. His trademark line is that the government spent a lot of time and money teaching him how not to die -- just after they taught him how to kill. Tracking Swagger to an isolated mountain cabin, officials led by Col. Isaac Johnson (Danny Glover) approach him outside of regular channels. An intercepted communiqué on the inside has tipped them off to a plot to assassinate the president in the next few weeks. All that is known is that the shot will come from a mile away. Johnson pleads with Swagger to scout the locations of the next three presidential personal appearances and use his skills and experience to determine how and where the attempt will happen so it can be foiled. Swagger swaggers back into action and concludes that the hit will come in Philadelphia where there is the set up. "Sarah Fenn, who is the widow of Mark Wahlberg's character Swagger his partner who was killed on a mission. She is a southern woman who, school teacher, and lives by herself and Swagger shows up at her door one day and you know he has been framed and he has been shot and she is the only he feels he can really trust and so she has to make that decisions of whether or not she can trust him and that is sort of how their relationship starts," said Kate Mara, who portrays Sarah Fenn. The film's release was pushed back a week to put more space between it and block buster CGI action thriller "300." Director Fuqua, who is know for such hits as "Training Day," shot in locations ranged from deserts to mountain wildernesses, isolated country homes and the streets of Philly. Glover said that he and his "Lethal Weapon" co star Mel Gibson are happy to see young action heroes like Wahlberg take over the reins. "I am glad, with my knees or probably even Mel's knees right now Mel Gibson's knees he couldn't do that. Mark is this new generation of young action heroes and not only that he is not only a action hero and he is a absolutely wonderful actor and that's shown up in the movies like 'Departed', and 'Invincible' just to see the range of his talent you know," Glover said.
