
Oct. 7: Methodical, disciplined and rational. That's the new assessment of the character of Vincent Van Gogh on the publication of hundreds of his letters. The Dutch artist is more popularly known as a tormented genius who chopped off one of his own ears, but his correspondence shows how much his work was informed by reading and reflection.
