USA: Winter storms hit parts of the midwestern United States, stranding drivers and leaving homes with no power.

The midwestern United States is again blanketed by a winter storm that has left ice-slicked roads and thousands of homes without power. In Wichita, Kansas ten inches of snow is expected by dawn on Sunday (January 21) with more forecast for early next week. The same area was hit in December by a snow storm that left 66-thousand homes without power. Meantime in New Mexico, residents are bracing for their fifth snowstorm since mid-December. Up to two feet of snow is expected in some areas on Saturday (January 20) with another storm headed in on Sunday. Saturday also brought a lot more work for crews trying to restore power to areas of Oklahoma, where more than 63 thousand residents have been in the dark since the ice storm hit last weekend. A strong winter storm system dumped six more inches of sleet and snow on Oklahoma City and the surrounding towns. Residents are flocking to local shelters with the weather forecast showing no chance of thaw until the middle of next week.
