USA / WEST INDIES: CRICKET - Reggae star Shaggy sings on the anthem for the Cricket World Cup 2007 ' The Game of Love and Unity'

The official song of the cricket World Cup ' The Game of Love and Unity' has been filling the airwaves across the Caribbean and the world as the tournament continues throughout the West Indies. The song features the voices of the voices of Jamaican-born Shaggy, Barbadian entertainer Rupee and Trinidadian Faye-Ann Lyons. Grammy Award winner Shaggy is best known for his hit singles Oh Carolina, It Wasn't Me, and Angel. He is one of the biggest crossover successes in dancehall reggae and brings his distinctive style to the song. Resident in Jamaica, Shaggy has witnessed the excitement the tournament has generated first-hand and was thrilled to be asked to contribute to the anthem. "The whole vibe of Jamaica hosting the opening of the cricket - has been a big thing, you know what I mean," said Shaggy to Reuters in New York on Monday (March 19). "It's been a lot of preparations for it, so just to have them give me a call being like 'yo we would like you to be involved in it' - to me it was an honour in itself, you know what I mean, that just gave me an opportunity to be a part of one of the more historic things that will be happening in Jamaica." The song was released as part of a cricket themed compilation called 'Caribbean Party', Chris Goins, Product Manager at VP Records, talked about the reaction the song is getting. "It's being heard at all of the tournament venues throughout the West Indies and is an amazing, amazing tune," he said. "It's being played on the radio throughout the Caribbean, here in the States and all around the world and being used in various promotions and anything kind of associated with cricket World Cup - you are more than likely to hear the song." The World Cup continues until 28th April, the final taking place in Barbados.
