USA: The Beckhams are set to bring their 'posh' life to Hollywood

Star gazers were agog on Thursday (January 11) over the impending arrival in Los Angeles of soccer idol David Beckham and his wife Victoria and their debut on the world's biggest celebrity stage. Although far from a household name in the United States, the couple dubbed "Posh and Becks" by the British media nevertheless look set to become one of Hollywood's hottest properties when Beckham starts a five-year contract in August with soccer team Los Angeles Galaxy. The couple told Reuters in 2003, at the MTV Movie Awards, that they were thinking about moving their brood to Southern California. "Yeah I think. I was in New York for five days and we loved it there. But you know now we have come here and it's amazing so maybe one day we will," David Beckham said while at the 2003 MTV Movie Awards. Beckham's good looks and the trend-setting style of his wife, former Spice Girl Victoria "Posh Spice" Adams, are expected to fill more pages than his soccer skills in a town where parties are more talked about than penalties. "I think it's about time that we got Posh and Becks. Now I don't know if they are going to be as big as they are in England. But I am ready to take them on. I am ready for the affairs, and the anorexia, and they fighting, and the football- which is really soccer- and the fashions," Comedian Kathy Griffin said while at the Silver Spoon Pre- Golden Globes gifting event. The Beckhams will learn to get accustomed to the lifestyles of the rich and famous in Beverly Hills which includes all the free gifts you can take. Celebrities gorged on free goodies at the two premiere gifting lounges Thursday, Silver Spoon Hollywood Buffet and the Kari Feinstein Style Lounge where Lindsay Lohan and Jessica Biel popped by to pick up goodies for the Golden Globes. "We are very excited that David Beckham is moving here and I can't wait to get some products to him and get some good sightings so we are excited," Kari Feinstein told Reuters. The Beckhams will bring a breath of fresh air to a scene wearying of over-exposed stars such as Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan. Americans who follow celebrities are fascinated with the couple. Silver Spoon co founder Melissa Lemer reiterated what will undoubtedly be on the mind of various women throughout the United States regarding David the heart throb. "They can totally both come but I really would like for them to get divorced because I think he is really hot," joked Lemer. Celebrity watchers said they could fill the gap left by couples like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, and Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, both of whom have shunned publicity in recent months to raise their young children. "I think she is very fashionable. I think she is a trend setter, I love her style very European. I think they are a great couple," said Harris Theophanous, Public Relations Manager for Etienne Aigner, about Victoria. The Beckhams are already friends of Cruise and Holmes -- whose Italian wedding they attended last November -- and Victoria was spotted house hunting last summer in wealthy Malibu and Bel-Air. David already runs a soccer academy for young players in Los Angeles. Despite the paparazzi, the Beckhams may find Los Angeles a welcome relief from the fish-bowl of their native Britain and from Madrid, their most recent home. Hollywood is home to many other famous British faces including singer Robbie Williams, actress Helen Mirren, and singer Rod Stewart whose son Sean was happy to hear of the Beckhams moving west side. "Welcome to L.A., " said Sean Stewart, Rod's son who is staring in his own reality TV show "Son's of Hollywood" that comes out in April.
