USA: Storms pound Florida on Christmas day causing millions of dollars worth of damage to major aeronautical school

Mangled planes and parts lay strewn across the airfield of one of the U.S. top flying schools following a series of violent storms in central Florida on Monday (December 25). The storm destroyed 50 of the 65 planes maintained by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona. The university's hangars and several of its main buildings were also badly damaged by the pounding rain and fierce winds. One hangar was missing its entire roof while the walls of another hangar were no longer standing straight after the storm. A mobile home park some twenty miles south of Daytona was also badly hit by the storm. The storm's strong winds were enough to overturn several trailer homes and wreak havoc on dozens of other buildings in the community. Florida state officials say no serious injuries have been reported.
