Vera Wang, Cynthia Rowley and Ports 1961 displayed their Spring '08 collections at New York Fashion Week on Friday (September 7). Rome, France and East Africa are all inspirations. Story: On day three of New York Fashion Week on Friday (September 7) Cynthia Rowley, Vera Wang and Ports 1961 showcased their Spring '08 collections. Cynthia Rowley, whose clothes had a sporty yet decidedly feminine feel, was inspired by the French leisured class of the 1970s. "There's a lot of details like racerbacks and layering of all these like sort of sporty inspired sweaters , sweaters tied around the waist, scarves and lots of pockets in everything and sporty details, which I think makes it more modern and you know, less retro directly," said Rowley. Rowley used a lot of silk chiffon, her lines were long and lean and the colors varied from cobalt blue to camel. In keeping with the sporty theme, her models biked off stage at the end of the show. Vera Wang also took her cues from a European country. "The inspiration was ancient Rome - hence the color palette and the sunrise and that incredible light in Italy but it was also for me, sort of an excuse to work with color." The colors she chose to work with were predominantly olive green and a variety of blues and the fabrics varied from shiny to crimped silks. The designer for Ports 1961 headed to East Africa for inspiration and the women living there at the turn of the 20th Century. The colors were warm with ivory, light coral and gold featuring prominently. Many of the models also wore scarves around their heads. New York Fashion Weekon September 12.
