USA: Minnesota residents gather to remember victims of bridge collapse

More than 1,400 people have gathered for an interfaith church service for the victims of the Minnesota bridge collapse. Nearly 1,400 people, including Minnesota's governor, attended an interfaith church service honouring the victims of last week's bridge collapse. Five people have been confirmed dead and officials predict that the ultimate tally could be as high as 13 people following Wednesday's (August 1) collapse of the bridge spanning the Mississippi. Leaders of some of the area's different religious groups addressed the crowd of at Saint Mark's Episcopal Cathedral. "It is important that we stand together tonight and and say, 'Minnesota, your heart is full of courage and compassion," one religious leader said. The service was filled with music and a collection plate was passed around to raise money for the families of the victims. The eight-lane span was a vital link over the Mississippi River and the most heavily used bridge in Minnesota with roughly 140,000 vehicles passing over each day.
