David Beckham's American adventure begins as he and his family land in Los Angeles to be met by a media army. David Beckham and his family are now officially residents of the United States. On Thursday (July 12), the Beckhams flew from London to Los Angeles aboard a British Airways flight. Beckham and his wife Victoria arrived to find hundreds of media and fans gathered behind steel barriers just outside the international terminal at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to capture the first moments of their new life in America. Beckham smiled broadly as he escorted Victoria through the airport and waved to members of both the British and U.S. press corps as he arrived for the next stage of his career with the L.A. Galaxy Major League Soccer (MLS) team. The Beckham's three children, Brooklyn (8), Romeo (4) and Cruz (2), were nowhere to be seen. There was also no sign of any luggage and it is believed the children and their suitcases were being transported to their new home in separate vehicles. British tabloid newspaper reporter Emily Smith of The Sun held a bouquet of roses. When asked how Beckham and his wife will fare in the U.S., Smith said the couple would stay in the spotlight. British woman Nicole Beamish said: "We love them. Most people in England do." Beckham recently told Sports Illustrated that he hopes to help raise the profile of his sport in America. And, the former Real Madrid star will have no time to recover from jet lag as he seems to be getting right on the job. Beckham will be officially introduced as a Galaxy player on Friday (July 13) at the team's home stadium in Carson, California. He is scheduled to report for training on Monday (July 16) before making his first appearance for the Galaxy in an exhibition match against English FA Cup holders Chelsea on July 21.
