Fans of the hit TV show 'Miami Vice' came out for film premiere in Los Angeles, California on Thursday (July 20), with the big-screen version getting its debut almost 20 years after the famous television series. 'Miami Vice', which opens in the United States on Friday (July 28) is set in the present and does not resurrect the old days, according to its producers. The phenomenally popular 'Miami Vice' flickered across screens for barely five seasons - 1984 to 1989 - on NBC, yet the effects of its influence on television, movies, music and most lastingly, of course, fashion, were so potent and unforeseeable that one can pick up their radioactive signals 17 years after the series shut down. The cop show lives on in reruns, on DVD and now in a new movie directed by the Michael Mann the original show's executive producer. "The best part of making the film was that we really went and did everything that we tried to do for real and went to the places and all the actors did their thing and they got great at what they did," Mann told Reuters at the LA premiere. Each of the stars does his bit to add spin to the visual images originally conjured by Don Johnson as James 'Sonny' Crockett now portrayed by Colin Farrell and Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx as Ricardo 'Rico' Tubbs, originally played by Philip Michael Thomas. "You know what first of all I am a fan of Jamie Foxx and I love Colin Farrell. Who doesn't love Colin Farrell? I want to see this duo on screen I know it i going to be amazingly sexy and really hot I can't wait to see it," said Singer Kelly Rowland Formerly of Destiny's Child on the red carpet. There is nothing stylistically to compare with the crazy subtropical brio of images from the 80's TV show that made pink t-shits with baby blue blazers and stubble from a two- day growth such a popular look. "You could not grow up in the 80s and not be a fan of "Miami Vice" (the television show) that is just not cool and I am a cool cat so of course I was," Rapper T.I. said at the premiere in Westwood. "Miami Vice" like the original show has plenty of flashy boats, pretty girls and big machine guns to go around similar to what might be seen in a hip hop music video. The film also stars British actress Naomie Harris and Chinese star Gong Li.
