Giant balloons in the shape of Kermit the Frog, Shrek, and other famous characters are inflated in preparation for the 81st Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Preparations for the 81st Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade got underway in New York City on Wednesday (November 21), as workers readied the 11 giant helium balloons that will float down Broadway on Thursday (November 22). Characters like Kermit the Frog and Shrek were inflated, then tied and netted down, where they will stay overnight before making their way through Manhattan. More than 3 million people are expected to line the streets for the parade, with another 50 million watching from their living-rooms. This year's parade will feature 1,900 performers, 800 clowns, 31 small balloons, 11 bands, and 24 floats.
