USA / FILE: Hollywood movie director Robert Clark and his son killed in a car crash in California

Filmmaker Bob Clark, best known as director of the Christmas film classic "A Christmas Story," was killed with his 22-year-old son in a car crash outside Los Angeles on Wednesday (April 4). Clark and son Ariel Hanrath Clark died when their car collided head-on with a sport utility vehicle at about 2:30 a.m. along the Pacific Coast Highway, police said. Clark was 67, according to police, although some reference sites list him as 65. The 24-year-old driver of the sport utility vehicle was hospitalized and under investigation for driving without a license. His female passenger was also treated for injuries. "A Christmas Story," which was released in 1983 and focuses on a young boy growing up in Indiana who wants a BB gun for Christmas, has become a perennial holiday favourite in the United States. Clark, who got his start in horror films, also directed the bawdy 1982 screwball comedy "Porky's" and its sequel, and 1990's "Loose Cannons" and a number of other films.
