USA: Co-stars Russell Crowe and Christian Bale are right on time for premiere of "3:10 to Yuma."

Russell Crowe and Christian Bale star in "3:10 to Yuma," a remake of the classic 1957 "Western." The updated version, which uses the dramatic landscape of the American West as a backdrop, rises above the common "Western" by exploring a number of topics, including the relationship between father and son and good and evil. Oscar winning actor Russell Crowe and co-star Christian Bale were in Los Angeles Tuesday night (August 21) for the red carpet premiere of their new film, "3:10 to Yuma." The remake of the 1957 classic of the same name, also stars Peter Fonda, Gretchen Mol and Ben Foster. Set in the late 1800's, "3:10 to Yuma" is a modern take on the classic Western short story by Elmore Leonard. It tells of infamous outlaw Ben Wade (Russell Crowe) and his vicious gang of thieves and murderers who've plagued the Southern Railroad. When Wade is captured, Civil War veteran Dan Evans (Christian Bale), struggling to survive on his drought-plagued ranch, volunteers to deliver him alive to the "3:10 to Yuma", a train that will take the killer to trial. On the trail, Evans and Wade, each from very different worlds, begin to earn each other's respect. But with Wade's outfit on their trail - and dangers at every turn - the mission soon becomes a violent, impossible journey toward each man's destiny. Crowe told Reuters that making the film was fun, especially since it allowed him a chance to get back on a horse. "It's all fun, because it's skill sets that I've already taken on board," explained Crowe, referring to his horse riding skills. "To me, it allows me to focus on the character and the way this particular guy is and this environment. There was absolutely nothing about this job that was hard work. Except, that the weather was a bit tough, when it got down to minus 15, it got a bit cold in period clothes. It was all just fun, read the script, liked it and wanted to do this stuff and went to work with a smile.' Both Crowe and Bale, who genuinely seem to get along, credit a strong supporting cast for helping making their jobs easier. "A movie is really a challenge when you are working with idiots and you realize part way through that this is just going to be an awful bloody movie," Bale told Reuters. "But, you are still stuck on it and you just can't get up and leave." The film, which was shot outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico, also relies heavily on the dramatic backdrop of the American West. "I like the idea of being in the West and stepping out of the dressing room, which is not the West, forgetting what's behind the camera, even forgetting that there is a camera at all," said Peter Fonda, the son of actor Henry Fonda, who starred in a number of classic "Westerns." "There are horses and there are people, there are gray, black and white hats and all the stuff that make people have to deal with the elements. We had to deal with elements and that made it easy for us to be in the West." "3:10 to Yuma" opens on September 7.
