Actress Cate Blanchett was among those attending Monday night's (October 1) Los Angeles premiere of the heavily-hyped drama, "Elizabeth: The Golden Age." It is the second time Blanchett has donned the crown of Elizabeth I. The first was in 1998's "Elizabeth," which earned her an Oscar nomination for best actress, and anticipation is running high she may win this time around. "We wanted to make, not subconsciously, but just to make sure the film had its own entity," explained Blanchett. "I think this is much more of an internal film, despite the fact that you have this epic backdrop of the Spanish armada and the holy war, huge battle sequences. But, you still have this small internal struggle with the woman who is confronting middle age and infertility and things that every modern woman deals with." In the film, Blanchett, who stars as the queen who's dealt with treachery in her court and conflict between Protestants and Catholics during her reign, has lost none of the brio that made the original such a success. Her co-star, Abbie Cornish called Blanchett's performance inspiring. "She has this force of nature that really runs through her," said Cornish at the premiere. "In a couple of scenes, I had shivers by just how much it projects itself through that film. She did a really incredibly job in both." Returning director Shekhar, who wouldn't rule out a third film in the series, told Reuters that this was a film he needed to make. "I didn't feel I completed the story of Elizabeth," Shekhar said. "I didn't complete the story of power really. That's why, it seemed like the story was left incomplete and I'm not even sure I can promise that this will be the last one either." "Elizabeth: The Golden Age" opens through North American on October 12.
