USA: Actor Robert DeNiro, known for his macho characters, wears a dress and shows his feminine side in the fantasy drama "Stardust"

The cast of "Stardust" premiered the film at the Paramount Pictures studios in Los Angeles, California on Sunday (July 29). The mystical adventure directed by Matthew Vaughn stars Robert DeNiro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Claire Danes, Sienna Miller, Charlie Cox, Ricky Gervais, and Peter O'Toole. The fantasy epic is based on Neil Gaiman's novel of the same name and takes place in a countryside town bordering on a magical land where a young man makes a promise to his beloved that he will retrieve a fallen star by venturing into the magical realm. "I play a fallen star quite literally a celestial being who crashed to Earth who is pursued by various characters for various reasons. One is a evil witch who is seeking eternal youth and she believes that comes in the form of the heart of the star. Another group of people chasing her are a series of princes how are looking to take the throne of the kingdom that they live in and they have to do that by getting a stone that she happens to carry around neck and most importantly the young male protagonist has the intention of bringing her back to his love because they have made a deal that if he succeeds in bringing a star to her she will marry him so it's pretty elaborate and complex and really hard to say succinctly but that's the basic idea." said Claire Danes who portrays Yvaine in the film. The highlight of the film for DeNiro fans who are used to his macho characters is his portrayal of a gay pirate. "Bob is such a good actor I mean I was worries that I might not be able to get , you don't screen test Bob DeNiro , so I knew he was fantastic actor but I don't know can he pull off a dress, and dance the the can- can, and be camp, and all this stuff that we asked him to be? I didn't know but two takes, if we ever did more then three takes that was because there was a technical problem. He is a genius actor. You don't becomes Robert DeNiro the legend without having super talent," Vaughn told Reuters. Actor Charlie Cox, who portrays young store clerk named Tristan, said that he still can't believe that he gets to share the screen with DeNiro this early in his career. "I really don't know how to explain in words how that feels to meet DeNiro anyway no matter who you are is a huge thing . You know he is such a legend then to be a young actor growing up and admiring his work and kind of idolizing him and then get the opportunity to share the screen with him it's insane. It's madness," Cox said on the red carpet. Danes says that DeNiro, known for such tough guy roles as "Cape Fear", Taxi Driver", and "Ragging Bull" says that even while wearing a dress he is still a force to be reckoned with. "Well I think he manages to play 'whoopsy' as he is called in the movie pretty convincingly but while also maintaining his integrity as a pretty formidable dude," said Danes who wore a black Ungaro dress. The film opens nationwide in the United States August 10th.
