USA: A side of Christmas you thought you would never see is shown in horror film "Black X-mas"

"Black X-mas", starring Katie Cassidy and Michelle Trachtenberg, will be a scream for audiences when the gory slasher film opens in the United States on Christmas Day (December 25, 2006). The movie is a remake of the 1974 film with the same title, which was the first hit horror film of the time, and starred Olivia Hussey and Margot Kidder as sorority sisters stalked by a killer over Christmas break. "I actually rented it or bought it as well and I had to scour for it because I thought oh it would be really rare. No, its just sold out everywhere. I got half way through and I couldn't go on because it was just too scary and I was watching it alone and I wasn't with anybody so it was something we really respected and kept in the back of our minds but we all embraced our characters and modernized it," Trachtenberg told Reuters. Christian groups have slammed the remake of cult 1974 movie Black Christmas, because they find the horror movie "offensive". This movie provides an alternative to heart-warming Christmas movies and stars Cassidy ('When a Stranger Calls'), Michelle Trachtenberg (Buffy's kid sister in 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'), and actress Kate Hudson's younger brother Oliver. Movie-goers have long had a fascination with horror films from "The Shining", "A Nightmare on Elm Street", "Scream", and recent films like "Hostel". Hudson, son of veteran actress Goldie Hawn explains that is it more about the fascination with death. "We are all gonna die. We will. We are all gonna die someday maybe not in the ways that we are going to watch on the screen and we are going to be six feet under at some point and I think that there is something fascinating about death. Why are there rubberneckers? Why do people look at the wreck? Why do people kind of get turned on by danger or by disaster in a way I think it taps into that ," Hudson said in Los Angeles, California. The movie tells the story of Billy, a young boy who was abused by his mother as a child. While his mother was cheating on Billy's father, she eventually killed his father and kept Billy in the attic - for good, while she was with her lover and starting a "new" family. As Billy's mother fell pregnant with a daughter and treated her with love, which Billy had never experienced with his mother, Billy came out of the attic after years and brutally murdered his mother and her lover. Cut to present day, a group of eight sorority sisters consisting of Kelli ( Cassidy), Dana (Lacey Chabert), Lauren (Crystal Lowe), Megan (Jessica Harmon), Claire (Leela Savasta), Heather (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Megan (Jessica Harmon) and Melissa (Trachtenberg) and their house mother (Andrea Martin),who now live in Billy's childhood home, find themselves being harassed by threatening and intimidating mystery phone-calls during Christmas Break and as one of the girls goes missing, the girls begin being murdered one by one by no other than Billy.
