The self crowned Kings of Rock graced London fans with their presence on Wednesday (November 1, 2006) for the UK premiere of 'Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny'. A crowned and robed Tenacious D, aka Jack Black and Kyle Gass, signed autographs for fans on the red carpet before the film, which chronicles the origins of the musical duo. The comedy rock act known as Tenacious D, or sometimes just 'The D', have enjoyed a growing cult following in past years. They've become known for their irreverent, profane lyrics, fuelled by furious guitar playing influenced by classic metal and rock ballads. When they burst on to the music scene in 1994, lead singer Black and lead guitarist Gass proclaimed Tenacious D to be the greatest band on earth. At Wednesday's premiere they spoke about how their film will now influence cinema. "Well I think we've made the finest motion picture in the history of film," Gass told Reuters Television. "It's just a matter of opinion, but what Kyle speaks is the stone cold truth. Our film will not only blow your mind, it'll change your world," added Black. In the film the duo are at the beginning of their career when they discover that the secret to becoming a rock legend is tracking down The Pick of Destiny - a magical guitar pick which grants the user the power to rock harder and better than anyone else. The pick has been the secret behind the success of some of the world's most influential and famous rock musicians - it also happens to be fashioned from Satan's chipped tooth. Comedians/actors/musicians Black and Gass say the time was right for the movie. "Why wait? We've been working on this film for over 16 years - and it's time, it's D time," said Gass. Although Black said work on the film wasn't quite that long. "Kyle exaggerates," he said. "We've been working on it for only 15 years and 11 months. Be that as it may, be that as the case may be, you come to see it. The time is right - it's D time. The film features a host of star cameos from the movie and music world - and the privilege all theirs according to The D. "It was very exciting for them," said Gass "Just another day at the office for us." "We got Dio, Meatloaf, Tim Robbins, Ben Stiller just to name a few," said Black, listing off the guest stars. "Okay, I'll name some more. Sasquatch." The D aren't resting on their laurels with the premiere of the film, with plans to embark on a world tour in December 2006.
