UK flood misery deepens

The government's Environment Agency has put out 40 flood warnings on rivers in England and Wales. Britain has been dogged by almost continual wet weather in August - usually one of the warmest and driest months of the year. Several roads have been cut off by floodwaters in the west of the country and the chaos spread across the rest of the United Kingdom.
