London Fashion Week continued on Wednesday (September 20) with another big return, as British fashion icon Zandra Rhodes staged her first London Fashion Week show in twenty years. Rhodes made a name for herself in the seventies with her wild colours and designs and the pink-haired designer has since stayed on the forefront of the UK fashion scene. During her absence from the runways, Rhodes, amongst other things, planned and opened the Fashion and Textile Museum in London and received a CBE (Commander of the British Empire) in 1997 Rhodes's spring/summer 2007 collection featured trademark wild colours and prints. One of the longest shows of the fashion week so far, the designer proved she had not been idle during her absence. The vast collection included various pieces of swimwear, tunics and light summer dresses, but also featured more couture-like items in heavy fabrics and round shapes. Rhodes said a recent trip to Russia had been the inspiration for both the prints and the shapes of her new collection. And to prove she had her finger on the pulse and that she was not stuck in the past, Rhodes had hired the youngest ever model at London Fashion Week. 14-year-old American model Aleksandra Vasic made the trip from her native San Diego to star in Rhodes's London show. British actress Minnie Driver, who took to the front row together with hairdressing legend Vidal Sassoon and British top model Lily Cole, said she was looking forward to trying on Rhodes's creations. "Yeah, I think definitely, there is some really beautiful work, particularly the dress that Erin...I don't think I can quite make it look like Erin did tonight but I'll have a go. The black and white dress was amazing," she said. In addition to her spring/summer collection, Rhodes is launching a make-up range for MAC Cosmetics, featuring her signature colours. The range will go on sale at London department store Harrods during London Fashion Week and are also available on the MAC website.
