UEFA Cup Soccer Finals

UEFA Cup Soccer Finals

In soccer, the Scottish Rangers are taking on Russian champions Zenit St Petersburg in the UEFA Cup final today. And thousands of Rangers fans are in route to Manchester City for support. The Manchester Council will provide three giant screens for crowds topping the 100,000 mark expected. Zenit have produced some memorable performances en route to their first European final. In the semi-final, Zenit held Bayern Munich, 1 All, at home before stunning the four-time European champions with a 4-0 rout in the return leg. Rangers manager Walter Smith highly regards Zenit. [Walter Smith, Rangers Manager]: "It is always difficult to try and assess until after you play them but you only have to look at the semi-final result I felt that 1-1 in Munich was a terrific result for them, the 4-0 at home was an exceptional result and probably one of the best results in the competition this year." In an exceptional season, the Scottish League Cup-winning Rangers have shown rock-solid defense conceding just two goals in eight UEFA tournament matches. The match will be a contrast of styles, as the free-scoring Russian Zenit are hoping to become the second Russian side in four seasons to lift the trophy after CSKA Moscow's triumph in 2005.
