U.S. Striker Charlie Davies Critically Injured When Car Torn in Half

Davies, a striker on the U.S. national team (and French club Sochaux) , suffered a lacerated bladder, and facial, elbow, and leg fractures after the SUV he was riding in crashed and split in two early Tuesday morning. Davies and the driver survived, but the other passenger, Ashley Roberta, was killed on scene. Davies was in D.C. with Team USA to play Costa Rica in a World Cup qualifier on Wednesday. His injuries are not life-threatening but he will not be able to play in the World Cup next year.
