Network Rail is facing an unlimited fine over the Ladbroke Grove train crash (also known as the Paddington train crash). The firm, which was called Railtrack at the time of the crash, admitted a string of health and safety breaches at London's Blackfriars Crown Court, including failing to ensure a signal was clearly visible. Seven years ago, 31 people died and 400 were injured when a Thames Trains local service went through a red signal and hit a Great Western express. Network Rail said protection systems introduced since the incident had improved safety.
