TRANSPORT: Rail: Train fares to rise

Train companies have announced above-inflation fare increases to come into effect for 2008. Tickets regulated by the Government, like standard day returns will rise by an average of just under five per cent, while unregulated fares, such as Savers and season tickets, could rise by as much as 5.4 per cent. Rail travel has increased dramatically in the UK since the 1990s, but fares are the highest in Europe.
