A new world record has been set at the international hot dog eating championships. For the sixth year in a row, Japan's Takeru Kobayashi won the competition, managing to scoff almost 54 hot dogs in 12 minutes. A crowd of 25,000 watched the munch at Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York as 20 competitors battled for the title of top dog in the contest at the Nathan's beachfront hot dog stand. Standing in front of a long table on a stage, the contestants dipped the dogs in soft-drinks to help them go down. The only woman in the running was Sonya 'The Black Widow' Thomas, a petite 38-year-old who earned her nickname by beating a string of men at eating events. And what did Kobayashi do to celebrate his win? Celebrate with a hot dog, of course.
