Three Britons and a German man have drowned off the coast of Portugal after trying to rescue a group of children who got into trouble while swimming.Three others British nationals are being treated in hospital after the incident off the south west coast of the Algarve.It is believed that two of the dead were the mother and father of two of the children they were trying to rescue.A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "There has been an incident in the Algarve in which it appears a group of British nationals have got into trouble while swimming off the south west coast."Three British nationals have died and three are in hospital."The spokeswoman said the British ambassador in Portugal has been in touch with the civil governor, and the British consul in Portimao is travelling to the area.Next of kin are being informed, and there are no further details at this time.Commander Marques Pereira of Portugal's GNR civilian police said: "The adults jumped into the water to save the children."Some got out alive but unfortunately some of the others drowned.
