Thousands welcome Coldstream Guards

Thousands of well wishers have attended a home coming parade to welcome British servicemen returning from Afghanistan.Cheering crowds lined the streets waving Union flags and banners as around 450 members of the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards marched through Windsor with bayonets fixed. The Coldstream Guards exercised their freedom of the town accompanied by a regimental band.Their colonel, General Sir Michael Rose and the Mayor of Windsor Leo Walters took an emotional salute from the soldiers as they marched past the steps of the Guildhall. The Guards were returning from a six month tour of duty. They were deployed on security operations in Helmand Province, reconstruction efforts in Kabul and mentoring and liaising duties in Lashkar Gar.The parade was led by Lance Corporal Simon Wiggins, 21, from his wheelchair.
