The story of the Dunlop Tyre and how it started in Australia, by the legendary driver Francis Burtle who drove across Australia in 1913.

This Glenn Ridge outback story focuses on the story of Dunlop Tyres in Australia. It describes the legendary Australian driver Francis Burtle who drove across Australia from Perth to Sydney in his 10 horse power hickory framed brush motor vehicle. He was joined by his fellow driver Sid Ferguson and faithful dog companion, Rex. The trip took them East, through outback Australia. They drove through Broken Hill inland and onto Sydney where they were the first people to ever drive across Australia. They travelled at top speeds of 30 KM per hour. It took 28 days on one set of Australian made tyres. On the Dunlop tyres they used, they only suffered 2 punctured tyres on the whole trip. They conquered the West of Australia to the East and then went on to do the prestigious Darwin to Melbourne trek in under 200 hours in a 16 horse power motor vehicle.
