The Story of Jazz: New Orleans Stomp (2005)

The Story of Jazz as told by New Orleans' local, John McCusker, whose popular "Cradle of Jazz" tour takes viewers to the places where the evolution of jazz began and where its pioneers lived. We see the homes and learn the history of great musicians, such as Louis Armstrong, King Oliver and Jelly Roll Morton who helped turn jazz into a major art form. Filmed in the Crescent City during the French Quarter Jazz festival and the Spring festival of Mardi Gras, this jazz-umentary is a celebration of the city, its music and the happy people who congregate there to have a good time. And thanks to the efforts of acclaimed restorer Robert Parker, we hear excerpts of original classic jazz recordings in scratch free / click free digital stereo. The streaming 60 second trailer on the right has stereo music (Morton's "Black Bottom Stomp") re-created from a 1926 shellac 10 inch record. A companion audio only CD of the restored but full length music is available. The program is 53 minutes plus 25 minutes of extras: * Robert Parker on restoring Jelly Roll Morton's original 78 rpm 1926 classic "Dr. Jazz" * Cameraman/director, Stefan Sargent on filming in New Orleans and post production techniques. plus two full length classic jazz music videos: * "New Orleans Bump" and * "Oh, Didn't He Ramble". Restored music licenced from Robert Parker Digital Audio Pty. Ltd.
