The Queen's Pictures Preview Clip

Over the centuries kings and queens of Great Britain have created the greatest private collection of works of art in the world. Today it includes some seven thousand paintings, among them works by Bruegel, Holbein, Van Dyck, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Claude, Canaletto, Gainsborough and Reynolds. The foundations of the royal collection were laid in the sixteenth century by Henry VIII and his daughter Elizabeth I, while the enthusiasm and discernment of collectors such as Charles I and the Prince Regent (later George IV) helped to create the artistic climate of their day, in Britain and beyond. The Queen's Pictures traces the growth of the collection and includes location shots at Hampton Court, Windsor, Osborne House, Kensington Palace and the Banqueting House, Whitehall, London.
