The Old British Mandate Pumping Station In Tel Afek

On the eastern side of Tel Afek located near Rosh Ha'ayin, are the remains of a pumping station from the British Mandate period, once used to transport water to Jerusalem. While the building itself is far from attractive, the pumping station stored water pumped from the springs, performed filtration and chlorination. The water was stored underground, and between the years 1936 to 1939 pumped up to Jerusalem. In 1948 Iraqi forces held the building and attacked the neighboring villages, but surrendered to Palmach forces. Evidence of the battles that took place can be seen on the scarred walls of the old pumping station today.06/26/08
