The NFL is in LA!
What more could this girl want? A gorgeous Southern California day and great NFL athletes all looking to show me how to play their game - football - at the legendary LA Coliseum, home to two Olympic games and countless other historic sporting events. On this day the NFL organized one of their premier PR events, known as “Football 101″. I had the pleasure of learning how to schuck offensive linemen away from the ball and make that key defensive play, from All Pro Raider (Ret.) Greg Townsend, who also showed me some of the tricks NFL quarterbacks use to lure defensive linemen offside. Michael Husted was a 71% place kicker which makes Michael the perfect candidate to teach this gal how to kick a field goal. I know it tends to look pretty easy out there on any given Sunday but I can attest to the difficulty in the task at hand. If you ever wanted to be a place kicker, you don’t want to miss that clip.Next came UCLA standout wide receiver and former Bengal Danny Farmer, who has all the right moves when it comes to running routes, and catching that pass that will turn the game around. Danny had some great insight on the mental game receivers have to play to survive in the NFL. Of course in the NFL today, victory is uncertain without a good passing game and that lesson fell to none other that former 49er and Saint, Toi Cook. Who would have imagined that a defensive back would have so much insight on throwing the football, yet there I was throwing that pigskin the longest of all the girls present that day! And finally, no fantasy trip to the stadium would be complete without a visit to the locker room and a chat with Packer’s equipment manager Red Batty, who busted out all the gear these guys wear today. You will be amazed at all the equipment they pile on to survive this brutal game we all love called football. Red works hard at his gig but you can tell he loves every minute of it. It was a thrill beyond comparison to hang out with these great athletes and I hope you have as much fun watching the clips as I had making them!
