The Much Loved Friend? A Portrait of The National Gallery Preview Clip

This film looks at the history and rôle of The National Gallery, London, through the eyes of those who work in it and visit it: trustees such as the Prince of Wales, the director Neil MacGregor, the artist Howard Hodgkin, architects Robert Venturi and Denise Scott-Brown, and members of the public. Archive footage is combined with a behind-the-scenes look at the gallery's work, especially the scientific and conservation departments.
