Ever wanted to take on the corporate bullies? Enterprise Conkers aims to encourage youngsters to start their own company and, through their ingenuity, become an enterprising David to challenge the corporate Goliath. In The Conkerers, Maxine and Stu are newcomers to The Conker Club and are short of fans – they are unconventional businesspeople who find it hard to secure backing for their ideas, entering a marketplace that values reputation and 'brand name' above all else. However, through their creativity and enterprising spirit they triumph over the traditional big hitters, Billy 'the Bully' Bogglestash and Magnus, The Ultimate Conkerer, who arrogantly refuse to innovate and instead rest on their laurels, assuming that they will always take victory in any battle, using their ‘market share’ and brand prestige to intimidate their younger rivals. Despite the Headmaster’s attempt to ban conkers (authority and traditionalism interfering with – and attempting to stifle – creativity), Maxine and Stu continue with their quest and eventually succeed through enterprising skill. Maxine’s creativity leads her to realise that she can manufacture a 'super conker' that will beat Billy’s and Magnus’s and so she invests in Research and Development, by spending time in the Chemistry lab perfecting the perfect conker. Or, as Stu puts it, "find your perfect conker, train hard and you will find your victory." Maxine has the ideas and all she needs is support and back-up from Stu, who encourages her to "show me the money", which finally gives Maxine the courage she needs to take on her revered competitors. Likewise, Enterprise Conkers supports budding entrepreneurs and provides all necessary encouragement in order to harness their creativity and enterprise and allow them to succeed in business. The Conkerers also encourages women into a traditionally male-dominated business environment ("It’s always boys fighting"), by proving that through her nous and enterprise, it is possible for Maxine to triumph over her more bulky masculine rivals. The Conker Club is a metaphor for the business world: "If you’re good enough, you take centre stage and fight." It’s about the victory of brain over brawn. It’s about enthusiasm over ennui. It’s about enterprise.
