Speaking from an engineers' point of view, it's tough to imagine how an ant could possibly have enough power or energy storage to do what they do. But, the story to the left is proof enough for me... In most any age, the classic struggle of "Man versus Man", or maybe more politically correct, "Person versus Person" 'competition' or war, or 'misunderstanding', or whatever you want to call it, is really just a showing of an "I'm better than you" attitude. "My Race" or "My Beliefs" or "My Ancestry", or "Some special status we gave ourselves a long time ago". Think about it... We are beginning to learn to take each person for THEIR particular achievement. It's "what contribution have YOU made?", not "If you feel good enough about your self, you can fool another person into thinking you're an achiever, and maybe, with a stroke of blind luck, you can make a good contribution"... It's not what someone's Great Grandmother did to your Great Grandfather's 2nd cousin once removed....It's what YOU do. Now back to the 'lowly' ant. It's on a mission. It's society is depending on it to accomplish it's task of adventure and discovery, come what may. There's not 2 ant societies "competing", ALL of them are working toward their goal. Each of their society has a special talent, which they can develop. A somewhat twisted analogy is: Can you imagine the sum of the scores of two football teams, if they work TOGETHER to maximize the total score, rather than trying to keep 'the other guys' from accomplishing something? Yeah, well, whatever.
