Teacher arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of pupil

A teacher is being questioned on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly attacking three pupils. Science teacher Peter Harvey was arrested on Wednesday morning after a 14-year-old boy sustained a serious head injury after allegedly being attacked at All Saints' Roman Catholic School in Mansfield, Notts. The unnamed boy was transferred for specialist treatment after his condition deteriorated during the afternoon. Detective Superintendent Adrian Pearson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said the two other pupils were allegedly assaulted during the same incident in which the 14-year-old was hurt, though less seriously. Mr Pearson said: "A 49-year-old local man is in custody at the moment and it is appropriate to say he has also been arrested on suspicion of assaulting two further children at the time of the incident." Parents at the school gates said the 14-year-old was allegedly hit with a weight. Senior teachers and police officers stood outside the gates ushering pupils in this morning.
