Surviving the Holocaust: Hedy Hirsch's Story

http://www.yadvashem.orgHedy Hirsch was fifteen when she secretly fled to Hungary with her mother. Her father had already been sent to Auschwitz and was never heard from again. Living in hiding for two years in Budapest, Hedy and her mother slept every night in a different abandoned building or cemetery. The two were arrested while attempting to cross back into Slovakia and were also sent to Auschwitz. Finding themselves constantly facing death, they were determined to stay together, no matter the cost. They were subjected to hard labor and sent on a death march, but they both survived and came to Israel in 1949.
