Stavros Dimas

Stavros Dimas, Member of the EC in charge of Employment and Social Affairs, was born in Athens in 1941. A lawyer by profession, he worked for almost eight years in the United States in a law firm on Wall Street and then in the legal department of the International Finance Corporation at the World Bank. A member of the Greek Parliament since 1977 representing Corinth, he held various ministerial positions including the Ministries of Trade, Agriculture and Industry in the years 1977-1981 and 1989-1991. Actively involved in the New Democracy Party, he held the post of Secretary General for five years between 1995 and 2000.
