Special Report - Israel's Desert Dwellers - The Bedouin Cave Dwellers - Part III

Among the panormaic desert views lies the scenic village Derijat , which means steps in English, that was founded by farmers from the Hebron Hills area who settled in the area in the 19th century and brought with them the tradition of cave dwellers. The village is not recognized by the State of Israel and because of this is not linked up to electricity and instead villagers use generators. The settlement is similar to the bible days where Avraham Yitzhak and Yaakov walked from the Hebron Hills southward to the Negev. The Bedouin turned the caves into homes.03/31/08
