Special European Council "Justice and Home Affairs"

The Special European Council of Tampere was the first meeting of Heads of State and Gouvernment dedicated to the Justice and Home Affairs issues. In the final conclusions of the two day meeting, a strong willingness to build a common area for Justice and Security has emerged, as well as a proposal to create a common asylum system for all Member States and the creation of a EUROJUST network to coordinate penal trials at a European level. The Commission will now prepare formal proposals for new legislation on these issues
