The former England captain announced last Thursday that he would not be extending his contract with Real Madrid, but would join Los Angeles Galaxy at the end of the season. On Monday (January 15), Beckham joined his team-mates for training. But after he made his announcement, club coach Fabio Capello said the midfielder would only train with the side and not play for the rest of the season. The Italian said this had been a joint decision taken by the club's technical staff, including sporting director Predrag Mijatovic. He said it was not possible to rely on a player who had a contract with another club. Beckham was left in the stands for Sunday's Primera Liga match at home to Real Zaragoza, which they won 1-0. Sources in Major League Soccer have suggested that Beckham may now try to bring forward his departure from Real to coincide with the start of the season in the United States, which is in April. Beckham has signed a five-year deal with the Galaxy which will be worth around $250 million excluding existing sponsorship deals. Fans are divided over Beckham's transfer and the decision to ban him from playing. "He is gone because lately he has not contributed much and I think it is best. What I don't like is the way of doing it - to say it by phone and by video conference and all that, I don't like; it is not good for the team," said Julian Morales. Others agree that Beckham should have kept the deal secret. "He said he was going to leave, he should not have said that, he should have gone on till the end and play his last games, well, now he is going he is not even going to play," said another fan Stefan Gil. Two other fans, Antonio and Lidia, think that Beckham should have received a better treatment as he only decided to move the United States after being told he was not have many chances to play for Madrid until the end of the season "I don't think a star like Beckham deserves to leave like he has, because has gone by the back door. He deserves to have left by the big door and not like that," they agreed.
