SOUTH AFRICA: FOOTBALL / SOCCER - Delegates from around the world arrive in Durban ahead of 2010 World Cup draw

Delegates from around the world - including FIFA president Sepp Blatter - arrive in Durban on Sunday (November 25) ahead of the 2010 World Cup draw. While the race for places at the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Afric started some time ago in Oceania, Africa, Asia and South America, the build-up to the "biggest football show on Earth" is about to step up a gear with the staging of the Preliminary Draw. Every goal scored in the preliminary rounds of the 2010 World Cup will help pay for centers in Africa to teach football to youngsters, FIFA said. Launching the "Football for Hope" project in Durban on Sunday, FIFA president Sepp Blatter urged players to improve on the 2,464 goals scored during the previous World Cup preliminary campaign. FIFA and its partners will donate $500 for each goal scored during the preliminary round of matches, Blatter said. Liberian George Weah, the only African to win the FIFA World Player of the Year honour and now a politician in Liberia, was named as FIFA's ambassador for the project.
