Outfits worn by actor James Gandolfini in the hit US TV series The Sopranos have sold for a record $188,000 (£95,000) at auction.In the award-winning HBO series Gandolfini plays Tony Soprano: a man who tries to balance family life with his Mafia career.The 25 outifits were sold at Christie's in New York to raise money for soldiers wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan.The highest bid was $44,000 (£22,000) for a faux blood-stained costume.Some individual items went for ten times their asking price. Simeon Lipman, the head of the Pop Culture division at Christie's, said: "It just shows he cares about the Wounded Warrior project. He cares that his wardrobe was up for auction and it did well."Mr Lipman added: "We were very excited about that piece and the signature shirt he wore at the beginning of every show ended up selling for $11,000 and we were very happy about that price as well."
