Traditionally, grandma was always there to help whenever a baby was born. But these days, new mothers often feel there's no one to turn to. Rose Volz-Schmidt decided to address the problem by providing families with volunteers to help them manage everyday life with newborn babies. Herself a mother of three, she set up the "Welcome" organisation in 2002. Today, she oversees 50 teams, who provide support for some 1000 families. They work for free, while the families pay a small fee to cover overheads. The network is highly professional, boasting regular quality controls and several successful business partnerships. Volz-Schmidt calls it a social franchise, and plans to keep on expanding. Report by Dagmar Zindel .
