Snow-deficient winters: sales slump for sports equipment manufacturers Mild temperatures mean skis and snowboards remain on the shelves. Mild temperatures mean skis and nowboards remain on the shelves. Manufacturers are dismayed; last year, sales were already down by as much as 20 percent. But as snow-dependent items slump, weather-independent outdoor items are selling better - for example, sales of products for people who hike, climb, or go in for Nordic walking are up by about 15 percent. Völkl, the only German manufacturer that still produces skiing products, also has to cope with limate change. A report by Grit Hofmann.
