Slumdog Millionaire Dev Patel is just a normal teen

Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel still has to help with the chores at home despite being up for a Bafta best actor award. His mum Anita Patel, 45, said her 18-year-old son is "not perfect" and has to be nagged about cleaning his room like every other teenager. In Slumdog, Patel plays an orphan from the Mumbai slums who wins India's version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? The film has already won a clutch of Golden Globes and Critics' Choice Awards and was a high-profile Bafta nominee, receiving 11 nods. The actor, who still lives at home with his family in Harrow, northwest London, will go head-to-head with Hollywood stars Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Mickey Rourke at Sunday's Baftas. Mrs Patel, a care worker, also revealed she had to urge him to get naked for his big break into stardom as he was nervous about baring all for his role in Channel 4 teen drama Skins. She told a women's magazine: "He said, 'Oh God I am going to have to show my bum!' "I told him: 'It's only a bum, you've seen lots of people's bums before.' "Now Dev thanks me for making him go to the audition."
